I could cry for the world

Senseless killings. Strange happenings. The trampling of what is good and holy. The falling of truth on the streets. The silence of good men….

I could cry for the world; sometimes a few tears escape from my eyes to my chagrin. These tears, a witness to the missteps of the Church.

And I, by God’s grace, am a part of the Church.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16.

Those were the very words of our Lord Jesus Christ.

These days, I believe, should be a season of sober reflection for the Church.

While we’re comfortable within the walls of our fellowships (at least we do our best to portray that picture), the world has hit the self destruct button.

And no, there’s not a reset button. We can only save the much we make an effort to rescue.

Our prophets have forgotten the examples and abandoned the legacies of our fathers.

Brethren, the Church is not helpless and without power!

But what do we expect God to do when our prophets won’t stop pandering to the whims and caprices of godless state leaders? How do we expect Him to move, then?

The quest for survival has overtaken living by the Word.

How could we have forgotten that we live by faith, not by sight? And faith comes by hearing the Word of God.

How could we have abandoned the ONLY commission He left His Church with? So now we’re willing to do everything else except going into all the world to make disciples.

We won’t even try in our own corners of the world – “To avoid needless confrontation”, some have said.

I could cry for this world, but I choose rather to consider my place in the grand scheme of things – because God still has it all under control.

What is His Word for this season? What is He calling me to in these times?

I would spend time at His feet, listening for His Word.

I would share the Gospel, every opportunity I have, because it is the power of God unto salvation – the power that completely destroys the power of sin, breaking it’s hold on the life of everyone who believes.

Let the Church arise and take her place that the glory of the Lord would be revealed again.

Wipe your tears and take your place, soldiers of the cross.

Since we have been entrusted with the truth, let us awake from our slumber and do the work.

The enemy is not playing. See how the young ones, the future of any society, are being misled in their droves, and are living far below the 120 years appointed to man.

And then, there’s that question:

How many of them knew the Lord? Where would they be spending eternity?

It is even more painful when you remember that many of them were in Church for so many years, and we had the opportunity to lead them to Jesus – the only way by which all men are saved.

God is counting on us.

May we not be ashamed when we stand before Him on the day of reckoning.

And may the judgment of wicked men not come upon them because we stood by and refused to show them the error of their ways.

May we continually be endued with wisdom and the power of the Holy Ghost, so we would understand the times and know what to do in the seasons.

  2. And the truth is that God has given us words of lament in Scripture even for times like this when we can’t find words of our own sufficient to express the sadness.
    Great is His Faithfulness.

  3. Spending time in His Word and sharing His love. Loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and loving our neighbor as we love ourselves. God has not left us without our marching orders. Thanks for this heartfelt reminder. God bless you!
