No ma’am, coffee is not a food group

As much as you want it to be true, it really is not –

Coffee is not a food group.

Sorry.

Knowing how highly you regard this brownish-black goodness (with or without cream), I cannot presume to know all that this revelation could be doing to your mind right now.

And knowing how seriously you take this coffee business, I really do hope you take a moment to really consider the import of this new thing you’ve learned.

I would tell you what it meant for me:

I do not need coffee as much as I think I do.

But then, again, I never took coffee as seriously as you did!

But I did take some things as seriously –

Facebook.

Email.

TV.

Sweets.

Sodas.

And generally, everything else that took away from my devotion to God.

You know what I found?

Apart from God’s Word, I do not need anything else to do life successfully.

So when I find I’m starting to be dependent on anything else, it could mean I need to retrace my steps, and return to the feet of Jesus. There I receive His Word,  and power for life and living.

As much as your devotion to this brownish-black life saver (to your mind at least!) is admirable (as loyalty is not a virtue that’s easy to come by these days), I really do hope you step aside just long enough to gain new perspectives and see for yourself that, truly, coffee is not a food group.

And,

…It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4.

  1. Hello Boma, I love how you have made such a salient point with humour and grace. Coffee really can become addictive! As can so many things that we tend to depend on. Yet only one thing is truly needful for our souls. Thank you for this helpful reminder. Blessed to be your neighbour at the #glimpsesofhisbeauty link up! 🙂

  2. “. . . and so she walked away, sorrowing, for she had great possessions (of coffee).” (The MM translation)

Oddly, there have been times when I’ve asked the Lord as I take that first sip in the morning, “Could I get along without this? What would I do if you were truly all I had to keep me going.”

And so, you’ve touched a nerve this morning, Boma.

    • Ha! Don’t we all know that feeling, Michele! But we also know that nothing we give up for Jesus is lost. Thanks for visiting. Blessings to you.

  3. You touched a sore spot for me, Boma 🙂 as I drink way too much coffee. Could I live without the coffee? Yes, after going through withdrawal. Could I live without God’s Word? No, it truly would not be living at all. Grateful to be reminded of what is truly necessary!

  4. this fits with the concept of self review for Lent!

We each have our own “coffee” beast, don’t we?

Thank you for having the courage to tackle this black/brown liquid! LOL
    The point is well taken!

  5. Oh what a great way to grab our attention! We coffee lovers sure do a lot of “evangelizing” don’t we? I get convicted over that thought, and wonder if I am as ready to extol the virtues of my Jesus, as I am about coffee! Thank you for sharing such truthful thoughts today!

    • That’s one question we should all answer for ourselves, BettieG! Are we ready to extol the virtues of Jesus as we are about coffee?! Thanks for visiting. Blessings to you.

  6. I couldn’t say it better than Lesley & Bettie. You did make me laugh and grabbed my attention here, Boma! Love this and you are so right. I thought this very thing and breathed a sigh of relief as I reviewed the book, The Burden Is Light. Thanks for linking up!

  7. I beg to differ. It comes from a bean and when you add milk or cream it adds to the argument. Milk is a food..mama told me so. Lol
