⇒ Verse 3. Take every opportunity to correct wrong doctrines
When we come across people teaching the Word wrongly, and the opportunity arises to correct them, we should take it. Some of these teachers are probably not aware of the error of their doctrines. Let’s follow the example of Priscilla and Aquila who expounded the Gospel to Apollos, after realizing his error.
⇒ Verse 4. Do not listen to teachings that only leave you with endless questions
Sound doctrine should edify and encourage us in our faith Share on X
Sound doctrine should edify and encourage us in our faith, spurring us on to do mighty acts.
⇒ Verses 8-10. Love should be the hallmark of all we do
As children of God, love should be the hallmark of all we do. If someone professes to be a teacher of the Word but does not walk in love, we should be wary of such a person. Those who walk in love would not walk in ways that are contrary to sound doctrine; they would not be lawless, disobedient, ungodly, profane….
⇒ Verse 11. Be diligent with the duty of preaching and teaching the Word
Those called to preach and teach the Word have been entrusted with the glorious Gospel of the blessed God. It is a duty that must be carried out with all diligence and sincerity. And in a timely manner.
⇒ Verse 12. Serve from a position of humility
When we serve in ministry, we must do so from a position of humility because it is the Lord who enables us to do whatever we are able to do. It is His work, and He alone calls us, and graces us with the opportunity to partake in it.
⇒ Verse 13. No one is beyond the mercy of God

God can save and use anyone. It is not our place to judge. No one is beyond the mercy of God.
⇒ Verse 14. God’s grace is exceeding abundant
In Christ Jesus, God’s grace is exceeding abundant. We only have to believe.
⇒ Verses 15-16. Be patient with those who have not believed yet
God is patient with those who have not found Him yet. He reaches out to them and wants to make Himself known to them, If they’d search for Him with all their heart, they would find Him. We too should be patient with them and not relent in our efforts to make Him known.
⇒ Verses 18-20. We can fight this good fight of faith well
By the Word of God we can fight this good fight of faith well. If we only give heed to sound doctrine, we would not lose our way or our faith. We would know what to do and the season to do it.
What to think about
Only the Word of God can save and give us life. Every other doctrine is poison. Share on X
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. We cannot be too careful about the doctrines we receive. Only the Word of God can save and give us life. Every other doctrine is poison. Only God’s word properly feeds us and equips us for the good fight of faith.
How can you properly discern sound doctrine?
