The faith of a mother

She had heard of Him, and knowing He was in town, she went out to meet Him.

Today would be the day her daughter would be healed.

“…Have mercy on me, O Lord, Thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil”, she cried out with hope and faith – the great Healer was finally here!

But He wouldn’t answer her – not even a word!

Still she cried out all the more. She wouldn’t stop. She didn’t mind the not-so-subtle reactions of those around. Some probably mocked her. Others judged her.

But the great Healer was here, and today would be the day when her daughter would be healed.

So she kept crying out, “…Have mercy on me, O Lord, Thou son of David”.

And He still would not answer her.

Even His disciples besought Him on her behalf, “Attend to her Lord, so she stops crying after us!”

So now she was before Him worshipping, “Lord help me!”

But He answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.

But faith would not let go. This is the day her daughter would be healed.

And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.

Some said He called her a dog. Why would you not be insulted! How can you be this desperate! There are other healers around, woman! Take whatever’s left of your dignity and walk!

But that was not the case at all! He had been sent, but only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And she was not in that number.

And truly, it is not good to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs!

She would take the crumbs; it is still the same bread!

Faith would not let go, and today is the day that her daughter would be healed.

Finally, He said to her, “O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt”.

And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

O woman! O mother! Your faith would be rewarded. Jesus would answer you because He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

And now is the day of salvation.

  1. This is so sweet. As I read it, my stomach wrenched, thinking of a mother in anguish and worry for her child, and desperately seeking peace or healing….. and then I thought of the challenge some face in this life, to accept when the answer is NO but we must have faith anyway, and we will be greatly rewarded!

  3. Yes we must not waver in our faith because the Lord doesn’t waver on us. We have to keep moving forward and be persistent. We all have different struggles and challenges in life but to accept no for answer is how we start changing our lives. When we put in faith, it’s when things change.
