Deja Vu

Things are not always what they seem to be –

It may sound cliché, but it really is true.

Sometimes I wonder if life is lived in circles that get bigger after every lap, with the same experiences that just get bigger and deeper with each new lap.

At other times I’m sure life is a journey peculiar to every traveller, and that no one really knows the path of another traveller.

And then there’s those other times when I wonder about what I think I know and I’m not that sure at all –

Because things are not always what they seem to be.

It’s like the chicken and egg question….

Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

On most days my stance is constant; the chicken came first….

Like, God made the chicken and put the egg in the chicken as seed for procreation (I know! On some days, I don’t even know what that means!)

But things are not always what they seem to be, so there’s that….

In the midst of all of life and living though, there’s reason and logic (as if it’s not already complicated enough!)

And then there’s Truth; what God has said.

Truth –

The balance that keeps it all in perspective.

Truth –

The map that shows the way.

Truth –

The compass that shows the true north.

Truth –

The light that illuminates our path.

Things may not always be what they seem to be, and it doesn’t matter all that much if the chicken or egg came first….

I might not fully decipher the true meaning of life….

And the question of whether or not life is a peculiar journey to every traveller might not have a clear cut answer….

But I do know the Author and Giver of life.

And that is more than enough for me –

Even in those moments that cause great perplexity because I’m sure I’ve lived them before….

And how can that be, unless life is lived in circles….

But then again, things are not always what they seem to be.

I might not have all the answers, but my intent is to choose truth over reason and logic, every time.

Because –

Although things are not always what they seem to be, our God is the same. Unchanging.

And that is more than enough for me.

  1. I love Chris Rice’s song about saving up questions for heaven. I’m with you—knowing the author and perfector of my faith drowns our the circuitous questions that could drive me bonkers.

  2. I saw a funny post somewhere… “I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon. I’ll let you know..,” haha. thought that was cute! but yeah, some of our Qs just have to wait for answers later… in the meantime, we can trust God to reveal to us what we need to know. thanks for your post
